INSF – IIASA Call for Joint Sabbatical- Call for Remaining Positions
Following the positive response to the joint sabbatical call from the Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), all available slots in four of the five announced fields have been filled.
We now invite researchers specializing in Advancing Systems Analysis to submit their applications by September 6, 2025. Applicants are strongly advised to consult the provided link to IIASA’s research areas and review the submission, review, and acceptance procedures detailed at the end of this call before completing the form.

Eligibility
Eligibility Requirements:
- Holding a full-time faculty position at an Iranian university or research institute.
- Demonstrating a robust research record in fields pertinent to the announced priority area.
Call Timeline
August 16 – September 6, 2025
Funding
- Economy-class round-trip airfare
- Living expenses in Austria for a 6-month stay (total equivalent of €12,000 in Iranian Rials)

Additional Information
To facilitate connections between Iranian researchers and IIASA faculty, the call will be conducted in two stages:
- Stage 1: Applicants, according to the conditions stated in the call, must submit their completed proposal form in the INSF Research Management System (rtms.insf.org)
- After the submission deadline, proposals will be evaluated by INSF’s Systems Analysis Committee.
- Stage 2: Relevant IIASA faculty members in the corresponding research area will be introduced to the applicant. The applicant must correspond with the IIASA faculty member (as host), obtain a letter of intent to collaborate, and upload it to INSF Research Management System (rtms.insf.org)
- After this, the proposal enters the peer review process.

- Completed INSF-IIASA Sabbatical Proposal Form (in English)
- Updated official faculty appointment letter of the applicant
- Applicant’s CV (maximum 4 pages)
Registration and Submission Procedure
Applicants must register in the INSF Research Management System (rtms.insf.org) under the “Applicants/Researchers” section. If the applicant does not already have a profile, they must first register, then log in using their email and assigned password. After logging in, applicants may submit their proposal through the “New Proposal Submission” section under the IIASA Sabbatical portal.
