SRSF Joint Project Call (2021)
Silk Road Science Fund
Silk Road Science Fund (SRSF) is a joint project between Iran and China to:
- support joint Research and Development projects, and
- hold joint workshops.
In its fifth year, proposals applied jointly by researchers from Iran on the one hand and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) on the other will be supported along with SRSF framework. The proposals have to be on one of the following scientific fields:
- Nano technology
- Cognitive sciences
Joint Research and Development Projects
SRSF supports a maximum of six joint research projects.
Iranian researchers can register their joint research proposals in Iran National Science Foundation Research Management System from May 20, 2020 to July 19th, 2020.

Both parties shall submit their proposals to their due funding agencies under this call, i.e. INSF or CAS. Proposals submitted by only one of the two parties will not enter the review process.
Those research projects that are feasible to be conducted solely in Iran, shall not be supported under this call. Researchers have to justify the need for and added value of their international cooperation.
Iranian principal investigator (PI) must be a faculty member in one of the universities or research institutes in Iran and the Chinese PI must be a faculty member in one of the universities or research institutes affiliated to CAS.
Matchmaking between Iranian and Chinese PIs is not done by INSF or CAS.
Those Iranian researchers who have an ongoing international research project funded by INSF, cannot submit proposals under this Call.
The maximum of financial support granted to Iranian researchers is 1.680.000.000 IRR per year.
The maximum time period for each project is three years and the approved projects will start from January 2021.
Joint Workshops
SRSF supports a maximum of three workshops.
Iranian researchers can register their joint research proposals in Iran National Science Foundation Research Management System from May 20, 2020 to July 19th, 2020.

All proposals must be submitted separately and simultaneously to INSF (by Iranian researchers) and CAS (by Chinese researchers). Applications submitted by only one of the two parties will not enter the review process.
Iranian principal investigator (PI) must be a faculty member in one of the universities or research institutes in Iran and the Chinese PI must be a faculty member in one of the universities or research institutes affiliated to CAS.

The workshop may be held only in Iran or China.
In case the workshop is held in Iran, INSF will grant a maximum of 630.000.000 IRR to the Iranian researcher for hosting the workshop, and CAS will cover the travel costs of the Chinese researcher to participate in the workshop.

Those researchers whose joint workshop proposals have been accepted last year within the SRSF framework are NOT allowed to submit proposals for joint research projects this year.
Workshops must be held in 2021.
