The Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) have launched their second joint call, aiming to support up to seven bilateral research workshops in the fields of Advanced Materials and Novel Sensors. Proposals must be submitted by 28 September 2026.

Call Description

The second call for proposals for joint research workshops has been announced by Iran National Science Foundation (INSF) the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) to support up to seven bilateral specialized workshops.

The call is designed to promote:

  • Development of research networks between Iranian and Chinese scholars
  • Exchange of scientific findings
  • Capacity building for future scientific collaboration in mutually agreed research areas

Priority Areas

Advanced Materials

  • Exploration and processing of rare earth elements
  • Nano-composites for resilient construction materials in earthquake-prone areas
  • Green synthesis of nanomaterials using biological resources

Novel Sensors

  • Smart nanomaterials for biosensors: early detection of diseases and pathogens
  • Nanostructured gas sensors for environmental and industrial pollution monitoring

Eligibility Criteria for INSF Applicants

Applicants must be full-time faculty members of Iranian universities or research/educational institutions and meet at least one of the following criteria:

1. International Activities During the Past Five Years

Applicants must have participated in international scientific activities as one of the following:

  • Invited speaker at international scientific events
  • Secretary/organizer of international scientific events (with confirmation from the institution's Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology)
  • Presenter in international scientific workshops

2. Previous INSF Research Experience (100% Completion):

Research Project Principal Investigator

  • Principal Investigator (PI) of an INSF research project with 100% progress and supervisor approval

Doctoral or Postdoctoral Research

  • Supervisor of an INSF-funded PhD dissertation (registered in the system under the applicant's name), or
  • Principal investigator of an INSF-funded postdoctoral project with 100% completion and supervisor approval

Funding

For each approved joint workshop, the Iranian research team may receive funding of up to IRR 7 billion for a period of up to one year.

Funding will be allocated to the Iranian principal investigator according to project progress and INSF regulations.

Financial support for the Chinese principal investigator will be provided separately by NSFC under its own regulations.

Application Procedure

Applicants have to register and submit proposals through the INSF Research Management System.

Applicants who do not already have an account must first complete the registration process and then log in using their registered email address and password. After logging in, they should select "Submit New Proposal", followed by "International Projects" and "Joint Research Workshop Call", to upload and submit their proposal.
